Folded envelope

I am ALWAYS hunting for envelopes. I never seem to have the right size for whatever it is I want to mail. This handy little folded envelope is said to have originated with the Mennonites and is one I have used for a while. Speaking to my sister the other day, and bemoaning the fact that the cousins are so far away, I decided it would be lovely for the cousins and DD to exchange letters. I started looking around for some way to make it a bit more fun and this sprang to mind – but how to make it scrappy? Aha!

DD is working hard on her handwriting (I suspect she would have been a natural right-hander had her Cerebral Palsy not affected her right side so writing left-handed is a struggle for her) so I opted to include lined paper inside the envelope but you could surely use pretty patterned paper or even compose your letter on the computer on printer paper or even thin scrapbooking paper, so long as the pattern didn’t overwhelm it (paying attention to the size needed to fill the envelope) then attach it. I was working with scraps so some of my choices (like which flaps to decorate) came down to how much paper I had.

Apologies for the rather dark photos. I am still experimenting with the best way to communicate info so I would be interested to hear if this all makes sense, if you managed to make one, and if the grouped photos and instructions work better (both visually on screen, especially on a laptop, and as instructions) than a long column or a left-right-left-right sort of photo orientation.
