WOYWW 635 – tidy again, and my glue holder hack

Happy WOYWW. Is summer over? I may very well be with my knitting mates, depending on the weather, but as is my way when knitting and WOYWW collide, I will try to get to as many desks as I can before the day spirals out of control. My tiny little LifeBook one-sheet booklet caused quite stir, desk-wise, as I dragged moe and more stuff out while I worked on it:

It isn’t the worst you will have seen here, but it was pretty untidy for sure. I thankfully begin the day with a tidy desk, after a proper sort out so I could take some photos of the project. Phew. Let’s call last week an anomaly and say no more about it.

Now, I suspect many of you might think I have been unable to mend my wicked ways, and have simply shoved all the chaos off on to one of the other desks. I have not! the “messy desk” is also pretty clean. I have my large tub of extra-heavy gel medium and the nearly empty tub there, ready to mix up another pot of more fluid gel medium for art journal use. That massive pot is still more than 3/4 full. It’ll last me a loooonnnnggg time.

The only other thing of note is my solution for my little glue bottles. The word “hack” used to mean using something or doing something to solve a problem that is unusual is very overused, but I’ve come over all click-bait-y and popped it in the title. Dear me. I claimed a little trio of those very small jars you often see at garden centre buffets, all washed out and saved to take dressing or sauces with lunch to hospital appointments. With a simple wrap of some pretty washi tape around the middle, they hold my Tombow glue bottle, one precision tip bottle full of Art Glitter glue, and one precision tip filled with matte medium, slight watered down to a more liquid consistency.

Note the broken tipped needle held, ready to de-clog as needed. I am all set up for an art journal page. I have an idea that needs to be realized. MBD, a little sad this week, if you imagine the hyphen. They came out like this, so I left them, although Beauty Weds Tot – Drops Dead might have been slightly less awful.

Maybe next week, something uplifting? Probably not – good news rarely sells papers like bad.

Hope you all have a lovely WOYWW day. See you round at yours very soon!

  1. Oh yes the jam pots! ( was reading another post) I save them too, (will take a picture!) and seeing we took Lady Pam out today for a cream tea, (She had a cheese scone in the end) I still have two little jars in my bag! Thanks for reminding me! And the little gnome lying on my worktop last week?…probably had too much cider, I will, at a later date be sticking him onto the smaller gnome card. I wonder if I can use Vaseline on my loo rolls…? (another post again!) as the next rwo things I have to add to them, I haven’t got. Happy VERY late last weeks post…only I’m sure i was here at some point! ((Lyn)) #26

  4. Love your tidy desk and at one time my desk was always messy but now in the new flat as I craft in the lounge I have to keep it tidy so put it away after crafting, love the way you store you glue, great idea Take care and stay safe.

  5. Great clean desk but then, great busy desk! Mine got cleaned after my video then I started trying to rearrange as I purchased 12 ink pads. Stuff has to move! Anyway, thanks for popping by and have a great week!

  6. Mary Anne, love the clearing off of desk…ssss! LOL Although, I rather like a messy desk to see all the bits and bobs that folks have round so that I can get ideas, but mostly just be jealous!! LOL I know, I’m terrible!! Can’t wait to see your journal!! Great idea for your glues, I must steal that idea!!! Your MBD always tickles me, which I guess is the WHOLE point!! LOL Do have a great day and rest of your week! Thanks so much for always coming round to my desk!! I totally get what you are saying about your son popping over…you may get more than you bargained for and vice versa!! So sad that we haven’t gotten it all sorted out yet, I know you probably miss him!! Blessings Felicia #27

  7. Your desk looks great, and the pretty little jars for the glues. I saw your comments on my blog but I don’t know what problem you’re having. You can’t see what you are typing in the comment box, is that it? Can’t seem to replicate that problem if so. Happy WOYWW! Elle #20 this week

  8. Oh tidy desks, my favourite. Love the glue “hack” I keep mine upsidedown too and use a jar mid gluing when the top is off sometimes as well. Happy WOYWW BJ#24

  9. It just struck me that your ‘Man Bites Dog’ cards would be perfect for my theme of ‘Type’. I need a pack (only joking, I have lots of pages ready to post). Thanks for the Helvetica link – watched the trailer and will watch film later – also put the link on my blog next time I post a ‘type’ page.
Well, what a lovely tidy desk you are showing us today, not just one either. That is some work you have put into all that cleaning up. It does make life easier, I feel, when you tidy up and know where everything is. Just done a birthday card this morning so a bit of a tip with the journal stuff pushed to one side. I don’t have the luxury of your spaces ether.
Love how you decorated the little jam pots – what a good idea to use them like that. I have several that I use for water (cleaning brushes) and when I get more I will use one for my glue pot – it does get upended but not in a tiny pot like that.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  10. I like the look of that large pot of gel medium – is the Amsterdam any good? I’ve always used Jackson’s own but lately it seems to be out of stock and the smaller tubs of other brands are just not good value. I always dispense it into smaller containers as well – saves the large one from drying out. Where did you buy yours? My desk gets messy in no time at all, but that’s just the price we pay for using it – imagine, if you never used it it would be permanently tidy, but that would defeat the purpose of having a craft room! Yes, the MBD card reading sounds rather awful LOL! Have a happy week! xx zsuzsa #25 – no rabbit holes for you this week LOL!

    • I think it’s fine, but then I always dilute it. I mix it by adding water (so 1 cup heavy gel + 1/4 cup water to start) to get a more fluid consistency,in that smaller tub for art journal use and also mix it maybe more 2:1 for the glue bottle, which I use for almost all my sticking. I have used it once full strength and it was great. I think I paid £10 for the whole tub at Amazon, more than a year ago and I have barely made a dent in it… 🙂

  11. I love the tidy desk and the use of those little jars. What a great idea to keep the needle available like that – I always seem to lose the one I use! Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#18)

  12. Those little jars are perfect for the job. They are so cute and I hate to throw anything like that away. xx Jo

  13. Lovely and tidy desk! Great idea for those little jars. I happen to have some after a visit to a garden centre with My husband’s parents. Have a great week Angela #15

  14. We’ve had better weather in Wales than you, I think but I’ve seen forecasts that another heatwave is on the way mid August! Great use of those little jars and I’m impressed by your commitment to a tidy desk, it works for me, lol!

  15. Morning Mary Anne. Love the little gluepot solution! Brilliant. Enjoy your knitting endeavours before it gets too hot again for holding the needles and the yarn.
    Take care. God bless.

  16. Thanks for the tip on no roll Tunisian crochet Mary Anne. I went and looked it up. I love your mini journal, the idea of creating just to experience becoming.
    Take care and happy WOYWW

  20. good idea to put your glue pots like that, I store my glue pot upside down too in the corner of a box by my workmat (can’t say on the desk because of course it’s not a desk…. Have a great week. Helen #4
