WOYWW 186

Happy and Merry Christmas to all the WOYWWers. I am actually composing this on the fly, as I lay on my little nest on the sofa, by the tree, in the lounge. It’s actually been quite an eventful holiday period for me. I ended up in hospital on Friday and in surgery quite quickly. All a bit of a surprise, but all sorted (I hope) and just the recovery now. Oh, and the visiting nurse every day. Amazing.

The knock on effect of this has been….interesting. For example, as I lay here and type, the turkey is, now, finally defrosted and ready to cook. You see, doped up on painkillers I mis-read the thawing instructions. It said “13 to 24 hours” but I missed the “cool room” part, as I have very little experience of frozen turkey (while my mom always bought them when I was a kid, we have always bought fresh turkeys) and I always remember being told it was dangerous to deforest a big bird at room temp. As warm as it is this year, no place in our house is under 40 degrees! So the bird got left to thaw for an extra day. Next, DH and DS are actually pretty good at housework. They did the weeks laundry over a few days, and after a few hiccups about WHY it needed to be done a certain way, to all progressed fairly smoothly. And the dishes! OMG, there have been sinks full of dishes and they have managed well.

A most interesting change, and nothing to do with my being unwell, is the fact the kids didn’t even get up till after 9AM, and wanted to shower before coming down to open gifts. It was all very peaceful and civilized, not manic at all. Not sure if I like it or not.

My desk, you ask? Exactly the same as last week. So here is just a holiday themed image to fill the gap.

CHRISTMASCIRCLES1

We will work together to get the meal on the table, watch a few more holiday movies, play a few games (finally, after years of talking about it I got DS a copy of Illuminati!) and relax. Wishing you and yours the happiest – and healthiest! – of holidays.

Mary Anne

  1. So sorry to hear, you ended up in the hospital and had a surgery at this time, but good to hear all is good again, and as we use to say, there´s never anything so bad, that it´s not good for something else, cause now you at least found out, that the family can even make a decent Christmas them self, so from now on, you can ask them to join in a lot more in the following years, which isn´t bad a t all ha ha ha.
I really hope you´ll feel much better soon hun and will have a very speedy recovery and a very Happy Christmas after all anyway. Just relax and get some wellearned rest here and take good care.

  2. So, now quite the Christmas you expected but sounds like everyone had a fab time anyway – tis often thus!! Good for your family for pitching in 🙂

  3. WOW what a horrible detour to Christmas Holidays! Hope you are feeling better and it is nice to hear everyone is pitching in to help out. I hated it when the kids got old enough to sleep in and didn’t get excited over Christmas stockings anymore. Have a great week. Vickie #4

  4. Oh my goodness, that sounds quite scary. Glad to hear all was sorted and that you are recovering. Milk it for as long as you can, is my advice. They might appreciate you a biy more after this.
Happy WOYWW and may the New Year bring you lots of good health, happiness and blessings.

  11. Golly, what a frantic start to Christmas, hope you’re fully on the way to recovery – sounds like the civilized behaviour of the children on Christmas Day should have been a relief! 16. OH MA, what a shocker. I hope you’re recovering well, and doing as you’re told in terms of rest and taking care of yourself. Yep, slumbering teenagers is a weird thing, our Christmas morning was very civilised, fun nonetheless, but very different fun! Let me know if I can do anything for you, particularly if Dh doesn’t take long from work…..

  17. Oh poop, that’s not how we plan our Christmas is it? Really hope that you are on the mend and able to enjoy your holiday with the kids together, but it does go to prove that they are more than capable of helping out and taking on the duties when necessary. Get better quick, hugs, Annette

  18. Sorry to hear about your hospital visit – not what you’d plan for Xmas. Good to know the family can cope with you being laid up recuperating – hope you are back well on your feet soon.
    Take care
    Season’s greetings

  19. Sorry to hear about getting sick right before Christmas but so glad you have family there to help you out! Waving hi from the rainy, but wishing it was snowing hills of North Carolina for the last WOYWW of 2012!!

  20. Sounds as though your family gave you a good recoop time. Funny how they can “do it” when Mom is down and out. Hope you are feeling better and the now year is full of blessings

  21. OMW the last thing one needs to deal with over Christmas is having Mom out of it! Sorry to here about your misfortune Marry Anne. Isn’t funny how well the family can and do cope without you when they have to. Wishing you and yours a wonderful festive season, with you getting the rest and attention you need for a speedy recovery! Don’t be gone too long – need my ‘fixes’.
    Many warm hugz from Moz

  22. Oh, my lovely – I am so sorry to hear that you have been in hospital, but glad that it sounds as if you are recovering well in the midst of your family, hope the turkey was great even if a day late. 23. Oh my! Wishing you a speedy recovery! Happy New Year! Nan 44

  24. I must say, Mary Ann, you haven’t lost your zest despite the unexpected surgery and being doped up on downers. You’re an inspiration! It sounds like you have a lovely family that can be counted on when the going gets rough and that’s a tribute to your training skills! Well done!

Since I’m late getting around the WOYWW hop, I got to see your newer post about the sock puppets. Thanks for sharing – I will be checking that out and passing that on!!

Get well soon and best wishes to you for a happy and healthy new year! Darnell #53

  25. Sorry for your troubles. Hope you heal well, and quickly.

  26. I do wish the best and so sorry to hear about the surgery but a downer. Looks like Christmas came together in your family just fine, sometimes it helps to sit and throw orders around, learn to delegate it is a good thing.

I wish you a speedy recovery
Belated Christmas Greetings and Happy New Year
