WOYWW 158 – lettering journal

Hello WOYWW-ers.  Click and see the best Mr Linky list around, and your passport to worldwide desks and the inspiration they contain.

Hope you had a great week.  I did eventually sort out my posting last week (I have NO IDEA what is happening with WordPress but it’s been doing weird things for days now) but then threw my back out.  I think it was a WOYWW person who told me once you have a REALLY bad episode like I had at Christmas, you can expect more problems and it looks like that is true.  Not severe, but note likely to put me out flat for a couple of days after doing anything too strenuous.

I had hoped to lead off with the ATC from Patsy in the Philippines but it’s still not arrived from its long journey.  The back-up I mentioned yesterday?  A lovely surprise return ATC from my send-to gal Neet! So pretty.

Now, on to my desk – OMG my entire room is shocking.

The rest of the room is just as bad as my desktop.  But I did my lettering for the Letter Love class and it’s not horrible. As I said yesterday my lettering is sort of a riff on Dr Stranglove’s subtitle (…or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) although I may still play around with another version that is more exactly the title, like or how I learned to stop worrying and just WRITE .  It uses one of the techniques from the video, although it wasn’t  a new one to me even then, which may be why I felt confident starting out with this one.  It’s lettering within lines.  I really need a better paint pen.  Mine is spitting and skipping a lot now.  I use it a lot.

I need to fill the bottom edge a bit more – it’s looking too bare to me.

(ARGH.  WHY does WordPress insist on downloading little .php files and refusing to let me upload photos or access my media library??)

And a bit of a close-up so you can see ALLLLLL the mistakes LOL!

I think I’m going to like this class, but no WAY I will finish it in 29 days. Have a great WOYWW – I’m looking forward to hopping round to yours!

  5. Hi MaryAnne! I love your journal with the lettering! It’s so lively and colourful and the lettering is fab, fab, fab! I normally read your posts on my mobile (which doesn’t let me comment unfortunately) but today I thought I’d drop by on the PC so I could actually say ‘Hi’. Keep going with the lettering course, I think it will all look lovely. I’m almost tempted to join in myself, but I’ve got so much going on at the moment I don’t think I’ll do it any justice.

    Thanks for sharing

  6. Love your journal cover and the title totally makes me laugh! I said I’d love to see a handwriting analyst sometime. I write different ways on on different days. Maybe a multiple personality thing?!! ha ha. I think the flaws and mistakes are what makes hand lettering so much fun, especially if you are doing whimsical lettering. #147

  9. No wordpress problems on this side of the pond! In fact, I’ve only ever had one problem with it in almost four years. Sorry to hear about your back, yep, once you’ve hurt it it will plague you forever! Love the Letters journal but I’m really taken with your earlier posts on the fun foam stamps, looks like brilliant fun.

  12. Your How to Learn to Love etc front cover had me chortling into my cuppa!! It looks pretty damn fine to me, even when you did zoom in for a good close up of your mistakes!
I really hope your back starts co-operating again – unfortunately it only seems to be rest that sorts it out. …. not fun at all 😦

  13. Love your handwriting, and that you did the Love Lettering course which I’ve been eyeing off recently. Wish I’d found it sooner. You inspire me to follow up and see whether I can do it on-line in my own time.

  14. About the link thing…is hotlink the link that comes up when you leave a comment? If it is, then for time immemorial, this link has taken you to the users profile page…I assumed it was just what blogger does….maybe it’s a setting…..oh god.

    • I think if you leave it alone it does as you say, adds the link to the profile. BUT you can edit it (and lots do) so it provides a link to your blog rather than the profile. Maybe it is a setting, and I am clueless on Blogger tools, but it is so much easier if the blog link is there. When reading my email I can click on the link an go right to the blog to comment, which is fast. And I am all about the fast 🙂

I also ‘did’ my back a few years ago and it has never been the same since. I’ve had to stop gardening as I cannot lift anything too heavy or bend now – have to be extremely careful with whatever I do and it’s such a nuisance. Good luck with yours.
