Hello all! What is on my desk today I wonder? Well I know, but you don’t, yet.
First, an international comparison. On the left we have a typical American roll of paper towels (kitchen roll to my UK friends) and on the right the standard UK size.
Shift that away and you will see what I am playing with – I had read about using paper towels for art in a very old Somerset Studio and always hankered to give it a try. So I did. I seem to be in a very kitchen-y mood with my experiments, between the waxed paper and now the towels.
And some of my samples, which TODAY I will be turning into something fabulous (gee, I’m optimistic!) Two for the price of one, as the towels are 2-ply.
And a paler one, with some over-stamping.
That should keep me busy. I had planned on sorting my ATC but my printer died. A new one is on order and I’ll hope it arrives in time. If not, I can’t do what I want! If I haven’t gotten it by Monday I’ll have to decide if I want to hold fast with my perfect idea or try to come up with another one that will accomplish the same thing. All very cryptic but I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for the recipient!
Anyway, hop on over to The Stamping Ground, home of the WOYWW weekly visit to desks hither and yon. SOMEONE will inspire you I promise!
<sigh> I remembered to go back and check to see if my trick of forcing the comment box to reappear actually worked, and the comments I left last week showed up. They didn’t. But in the wee hours I WAS able to comment on those sorts of blogs from my iPad. So now it is just a matter of commenting on the ones I can from my desk top then scooting to my iPad to try from there. I inch ever closer to developing the procedure to follow every week!

Love what you’ve done with the paper towels and can’t wait to see what happens next! Late visiting this week, but hope you’ve had a great week. I also enjoyed your blog on the stampmaker … I got one for xmas and haven’t really played with it yet … tut tut! I feel inspired now … Thanks for sharing Liz at 131 x

I love the towels all coloured up.
I think the roll size says one of two things… Brits are not as messy or Brits are easier to rip off!!

Unfortunately it fades. for some reason i kept the towel I made 5 years ago and many faded and then one I made into a tissue box cover and quilted it has not, It is sort of addictive. Sue Bleisweiss taught this class back then.

Do you think it depends on what you use to colour it? For example, true dye inks, and Cosmic Shimmer mist is really vibrant but the distress inks/stains really fade, even overnight! I would expect “archival” quality inks to last, but then if the paper towels are full of acid/lignin, maybe they might. And I wonder, too, if a coating of gesso/Mod podge to seal it would make a difference? But who has the time to wait to see if it lasts or fades? 🙂

The paper towel comparison is interesting — guess the UK among us (not me) make smaller messes?!? I’ve seen the paper towel projects in mags too. Yours came out nicely – can’t wait to see a finished project.
Congrats on being number 1

Lol – well, I’ve never seen kitchen roll comparisons on WOYWW before, but there’s a first time for everything!! Where did you get the US version from?? Anyhow, I really like what you did with the sheets, that’s really clever 🙂
Thank you for the kind comments on my blog – everyone has been so kind, it really is much appreciated. Btw, I am sorry I couldn’t help out with Julia’s WOYWW dolls, but they looked fabulous. Well done you for organising it!

Ooooh must have bash at that! looks like you can get some interesting effects!
I noticed my local shop is selling “The Big Roll”! I think it’s equivalent to a twin pack UK sized roll but the sheets are bigger…could possibly be the American one. Lasts for ages and not really that expensive either.
Thanks for sharing,

Your paper towel work looks lovely – soft pastels and diffused patterns as well as the brighter one. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Not sure about the huge roll. It wouldn’t fit my holder, and I react badly to the overall cost of changing things to be bigger, better, brighter when in fact they are no more effective and encourage waste. Now I’ll get off the soap box.
Hope that printer problem has a quick solution.
Cheers,

I know they say that everything is bigger in America but that is ridiculous! Love what you did with the paper towel, the colours are fabulous. I have just started to play with blobbing (technical term for splodging colour), not going too well as I keep trying to paint not blob. Hope your printer arrives in time.
Have a great week.
