WOYWW 133 – beginnings of a project

Aaahh WOYWW – how I’ve missed your inspiration….

After spending the past week so painfully prone, resting my back, I have been ultra careful in all things.  Moving gingerly, not sitting too long in one position, absolutely NO LIFTING or PULLING of anything,  I really cannot risk re-injury.

Most years, I do the wrapping on the floor, and get up in pain from being all twisted and reaching out for stuff.  This year I sat nicely on the sofa and worked on a proper-height table. At the end of a marathon wrapping session (I mean HOURS) I didn’t hurt at all. Huh.  Maybe I should have done that all among.

The turkey is ordered, other ordered stuff is arriving – like pumpkin puree, and Bordens Egg Nog – and things are in process for the big 3-days (eve, day, and day after) and I am looking forward to a fairly laid-back weekend.  No guests due, no place to be, no pressure over the meal, just our little family unit all together.  Bliss.

And I am dithering over adding a new recipe to the mix.  I so want to make this:

Brownie Peppermint Trifle.  An adapted recipe from one by Martha (and if the comments are true, better than the original) but not 100% sure what to use for Cool Whip.  Whipped Cream may not have the same airiness-that-stays, like Cool Whip, and Angel Delight is just foul.  I’ll dither on.

I am working on the construction of a mini-book – actually a 2 volume book, The A to Z of Me, for…wait for it…. ME!  Yes a book about me, by me, for me.  Shocking during this time of giving, but there you go.

I managed to squeeze out one more photo before the battery totally died.  Must make sure DH sorts that charger or I won’t even have the usual rubbish photos of Christmas this year LOL! An interesting spine, I think, but still some refining.  It’s now probably get shelved till after the first of the year, because there is lots of UKS work to be getting on with next week and in to early January.  Then DS turns 19 (!) and heads back to Uni, DD back to school, DH back to work, and I may just get a little crafting time.  Till then…..

Happy Holidays!

  6. Making a book about yourself is a great idea. I’ve been going through old family photos so could see myself making a project incorporating generations into a story.

    The dessert looks yummy!!

  8. Congratulations on making the Christmas WOYWW No. 1 spot despite your bad back. I do hope that continues to improve and I think you are wise to avoid anything that might set you back … oh do pardon the unintended pun!!! I’m not a fan of trifle but I watched Nigel Slater making on tonight and it looked scrumptious, mincemeat sponge, custard, lemon & orange curd and absolutely no jelly 🙂 So I think I may just be tempted to have a bash at making it – he used real cream to top his.
Your planned Christmas sounds like hours, quiet and peaceful and I hope you have a wonderful time – Merry Christmas 🙂 Elizabeth x #46

  11. Serious stuff there – using both widths of ATG!! Looks cool already, am liking the spine idea very much. Am happy to hear that you are moving about and sort of getting over it – be careful! We used to have a cool whip alternative, damned if I can remember what it was called…will come back if I can think of it! Happy holidays!

  14. Whipped cream tastes so much nicer than Cool Whip, I think I’d use that. Real whipped cream, made with a mixer, not out of a can, has more substance to it.

  15. Just wanted to say a big thank you for your free printables – I had a mega card making session at the weekend and made cards up using them.

Take it steady with your back – i did mine in over the summer and i still have to be careful and remember to move a bit closer and bend ze knees…

    Have a great Christmas!

  20. Love the look of that trifle. I am sure dear Martha Stewart used regular whipping cream and not the ersatz Cool Whip and it would work out just fine. I had a raspberry trifle the first time I was in the UK made with a fresh pudding style sauce that would be good too I bet!. Hope you and your family enjoy a Merry Christmas holiday. Thanks for sharing. Vickie #44

  23. Oooh that cake looks yummy – not that I really make cakes though – I have a chocolate log and a Christmas pudding from Tescos in the cupboard that will do for us! Like the startings of your book – I started one about me a while ago but that has been put away til another time too. Why have you got so many tape guns?? I use my big yellow one for nearly everything and then just have a roll of double sided that you cut by hand (the shame of it!) if I cant put my hand on the yellow gun (which surprisingly happens quite a lot on my cluttered desk!). Hope you all have a fabulous Christmas. Thanks for sharing. Sunshine Girl – No 38
