WOYWW 133 – beginnings of a project

Aaahh WOYWW – how I’ve missed your inspiration….

After spending the past week so painfully prone, resting my back, I have been ultra careful in all things.  Moving gingerly, not sitting too long in one position, absolutely NO LIFTING or PULLING of anything,  I really cannot risk re-injury.

Most years, I do the wrapping on the floor, and get up in pain from being all twisted and reaching out for stuff.  This year I sat nicely on the sofa and worked on a proper-height table. At the end of a marathon wrapping session (I mean HOURS) I didn’t hurt at all. Huh.  Maybe I should have done that all among.

The turkey is ordered, other ordered stuff is arriving – like pumpkin puree, and Bordens Egg Nog – and things are in process for the big 3-days (eve, day, and day after) and I am looking forward to a fairly laid-back weekend.  No guests due, no place to be, no pressure over the meal, just our little family unit all together.  Bliss.

And I am dithering over adding a new recipe to the mix.  I so want to make this:

Brownie Peppermint Trifle.  An adapted recipe from one by Martha (and if the comments are true, better than the original) but not 100% sure what to use for Cool Whip.  Whipped Cream may not have the same airiness-that-stays, like Cool Whip, and Angel Delight is just foul.  I’ll dither on.

I am working on the construction of a mini-book – actually a 2 volume book, The A to Z of Me, for…wait for it…. ME!  Yes a book about me, by me, for me.  Shocking during this time of giving, but there you go.

I managed to squeeze out one more photo before the battery totally died.  Must make sure DH sorts that charger or I won’t even have the usual rubbish photos of Christmas this year LOL! An interesting spine, I think, but still some refining.  It’s now probably get shelved till after the first of the year, because there is lots of UKS work to be getting on with next week and in to early January.  Then DS turns 19 (!) and heads back to Uni, DD back to school, DH back to work, and I may just get a little crafting time.  Till then…..

Happy Holidays!

  4. oooh that Trifle looks sooooo good!!! 🙂

  5. Merry Christmas! That pudding looks delicious!

  6. Making a book about yourself is a great idea. I’ve been going through old family photos so could see myself making a project incorporating generations into a story.

    The dessert looks yummy!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

  7. a bad back is miserable but it sounds like you have everything organised. good luck with the book, why not make it for yourself, you will appreciate all the work involved
thanks for sharing and happy festive season

  8. Congratulations on making the Christmas WOYWW No. 1 spot despite your bad back. I do hope that continues to improve and I think you are wise to avoid anything that might set you back … oh do pardon the unintended pun!!! I’m not a fan of trifle but I watched Nigel Slater making on tonight and it looked scrumptious, mincemeat sponge, custard, lemon & orange curd and absolutely no jelly 🙂 So I think I may just be tempted to have a bash at making it – he used real cream to top his.
Your planned Christmas sounds like hours, quiet and peaceful and I hope you have a wonderful time – Merry Christmas 🙂 Elizabeth x #46

  9. Yummy looking desert, can’t wait to see your finished book, and glad to hear your back didn’t hurt through your wrapping session, Merry Christmas, Hugs May x x x x x

  10. Looking forward to seeing the finished book! The spine looks really interesting – i love to make mini albums and to try different bindings. I should go for the trifle too :-). Happy Christmas

  11. Serious stuff there – using both widths of ATG!! Looks cool already, am liking the spine idea very much. Am happy to hear that you are moving about and sort of getting over it – be careful! We used to have a cool whip alternative, damned if I can remember what it was called…will come back if I can think of it! Happy holidays!

  12. I love that you are creating something just for yourself! I think we should all do that from time to time! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Holiday Season! ~ WOYWW #29 ~Robin Panzer Art Studio 33

  13. That’s one fine desk there my friend! Why so clean? I’m just jealous don’t worry! I hope you get better soon but we all know too well that these things take time. Have a Wonderful Christmas and All The Best for 2012

  14. Whipped cream tastes so much nicer than Cool Whip, I think I’d use that. Real whipped cream, made with a mixer, not out of a can, has more substance to it.

  15. Just wanted to say a big thank you for your free printables – I had a mega card making session at the weekend and made cards up using them.

Take it steady with your back – i did mine in over the summer and i still have to be careful and remember to move a bit closer and bend ze knees…

    Have a great Christmas!

  16. Ohh Mary Anne, you’ve got the WOYWW Christmas No1!! Sorry to hear about your back, hope it eases before the big day. Love the idea of the gift for yourself, it is the season of giving and no one says it can’t be to you!! Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.

  18. Ah so much fun mm I wrap on dining table much better sitting down on floor!and wow that dish thingy looks amazing – cant imagine where to start on it!! Happy WOYWW! and thanks for being a blessing to me through 2012.All the blessings of the season as we celebrate the birth of the dear Lord Jesus and the greatest gift of all, love Shaz in oz. x #20

  19. Wrapping on the floor is not good, I can get down there but have trouble getting up ha ha. Much better to do it all sitting. Glad you back is better now. Have a brilliant Christmas

  20. Love the look of that trifle. I am sure dear Martha Stewart used regular whipping cream and not the ersatz Cool Whip and it would work out just fine. I had a raspberry trifle the first time I was in the UK made with a fresh pudding style sauce that would be good too I bet!. Hope you and your family enjoy a Merry Christmas holiday. Thanks for sharing. Vickie #44

  21. Glad to hear your back is feeling rather better. make sure you get lots of proper R and R over the festive time and here’s hoping 2012 starts with a fully recovered you.

  22. the book looks fantastic and I wish I had read your post earlier as I spent hours wrapping presents on the floor and feel like I am about 110 years old about now… have a great holiday…xx

  23. Oooh that cake looks yummy – not that I really make cakes though – I have a chocolate log and a Christmas pudding from Tescos in the cupboard that will do for us! Like the startings of your book – I started one about me a while ago but that has been put away til another time too. Why have you got so many tape guns?? I use my big yellow one for nearly everything and then just have a roll of double sided that you cut by hand (the shame of it!) if I cant put my hand on the yellow gun (which surprisingly happens quite a lot on my cluttered desk!). Hope you all have a fabulous Christmas. Thanks for sharing. Sunshine Girl – No 38

  24. Lovely looking desert. Have fun with the “You” book, nice to have the memories.
Best wishes for a wonderful holiday to you and yours

  25. Oh I dont know, Whats the one we used to have at school, the fake cream, not angel delight, something like dream whip? argh! super whip? oh I dont know!!! But I am pretty sure that Birds eye still make it, I think its birds eye? You do know I’ll remember in the middle of the night dont you?
Oh now that book I dont think I’d like to write! after all, what bits do you /did you miss out? Most of mine would be cringe worthy!! But Good Luck with yours, xxx
    Happy WOYWW and Happy Christmas,
